Our Beliefs

In common with all Christians, Baptists affirm the ancients’creeds. Since their beginnings at the start of the 17th century, Baptists have been concerned with how we live our faith in Jesus. We have always been in favour of the separation of church and state; we have no national or international hierarchy and give great weight to the freedom of personal conscience.

Although each local church is independent, most Baptist churches, recognising that the Christian faith is primarily about relationships with God and with others, belong to unions and associations of fellowships. Burton Latimer Baptist Church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, which lays out the essential faith commitments of Baptists in its Declaration of Principle, and describes the kind of church that we aspire to be in its 5 core values.
